लखनपुर के एक राजा थे जिसका नाम रजनीश था उनके जीवन में सभी सुख समृद्धि थी। राज्य का काम काज भी बड़े अच्छे से चल रहा था। Raja अपने राज्य को रामराज्य की कल्पना केसाथ भोग करते थी इसिलए उनके नैतिक गन सराहनीय थे। राजा के नैतिक गुणों के कारण प्रजा भी बहुत प्रसन्न थी और जिस कारन राज्य में प्रजा खुश रहती थी और वहाँ की आर्थिक समृद्धि के तो कहने ही क्या थे। इस प्रकार हर क्षेत्र में राज्य का प्रवाह अच्छा था।
इतने सुखों के बाद भी राजा काफी परेशान था क्यूंकि उसकी कोई संतान नहीं थी यह दुःख राजा को अंदर ही अंदर खाता जा रहा था। प्रजा को भी इस बात का बहुत दुःख था। पता नहीं उन्होंने कहा कहा माथा नहीं टेका, कहा कहा प्रार्थना नहीं की।
वर्षों की तपस्या की बाद राजा की यह इच्छा पूरी हुई और उसे एक पुत्र की प्राप्ति हुई।
पुरे नगर में कई दिनों तक खुशियां मनायी गई सरे राज्य में कई दिनों तक नागरिको को भेंट स्वरुप भोजन और कपड़ों की व्यवस्था की गयी। राजा की इस ख़ुशी में प्रजा भी ख़ुशी से झूम रही थी
समय व्यतीत होता जा रहा था राज कुमार का नाम रोशनसिंह रखा गया। काफी मन्नतों एवम इन्तजार के बाद राजा को सन्तान प्राप्त हुई थी इसलिये उसे बड़े लाड़ प्यार से पला जा रहा था। लेकिन अति किसी बात की अच्छी नहीं होती अधिक लाड़ प्यार ने रोशनसिंह को बहुत बिगाड़ दिया था बचपन में तो रोशन की सभी बाते दिल को लुभाती थी। पर जैसे जैसे वह बड़ा हुआ यही बाते अवमानना लगने लगी। रोशन बहुत ज्यादा जिद्दी हो गया था उसके मन में अहंकार आ गया था।
वो चाहता था कि प्रजा सदैव उसकी जय जयकार करे उसकी प्रशंसा करें उसकी बात ना सुनने पर वो कोलाहल मचा देता था बैचारे सैनिको को तो वो पैर की जुती ही समझता था आये दिन उसका प्रकोप प्रजा पर उतरने लगा था वो खुद को भगवान के समान समझने लगा था आयु तो बहुत कम थी लेकिन अहम् कई गुना बढ़ चुका था रोशन के इस व्यवहार से सभी बहुत दुखी थे प्रजा आये दिन दरबार में रोशन की शिकायत लेकर आती थी जिसके कारण राजा का सिर लज्जा से झुक जाता था, यह एक गंभीर विषय बन चूका था।

एक दिन राजा ने सभी खास दरबारियों एवम मंत्रियों की सभा बुलवाई और उनसे अपने दिल की बात कही कि वे राज कुमार के इस व्यवहार से अत्यंत दुखी हैं। राज कुमार इस राज्य का भविष्य हैं अगर उनका व्यवहार यही रहा तो राज्य की खुशहाली चंद दिनों में ही जाती रहेगी। दरबारी राजा को सांत्वना देते हैं और कहते हैं कि आप हिम्मत रखे वरना प्रजा निसहाय हो जायेगी।
मंत्री ने सुझाव दिया कि राजकुमार को एक उचित मार्गदर्शन एवम सामान्य जीवन के अनुभव की जरुरत हैं आप उन्हें गुरु रामकेश के आश्रम भेज दीजिये सुना हैं,वहाँ से जानवर भी इंसान बनकर निकलता हैं

यह बात राजा को पसंद आई और उसने रोशन को गुरु जी के आश्रम भेजा। अगले दिन राजा अपने पुत्र के साथ गुरु जी के आश्रम पहुँचे राजा ने गुरु रामकेश के साथ अकेले में बात की और रोशन के विषय में सारी बाते कही गुरु जी ने राजा को आश्वस्त किया कि वे जब अपने पुत्र से मिलेंगे तब उन्हें गर्व महसूस होगा।
गुरु जी के ऐसे शब्द सुनकर राजा को शांति महसूस हुई और वे सहर्ष अपने पुत्र को आश्रम में छोड़ कर राज महल लौट गये।
अगले दिन सुबह गुरु के खास चेले द्वारा रोशन को भिक्षा मांग कर खाने को कहा गया। जिसे सुनकर रोशनसिंह ने साफ़ इनकार कर दिया चेले ने उसे कह दिया कि अगर पेट भरना हैं तो भिक्षा मांगनी होगी और भिक्षा का समय शाम तक ही हैं। अन्यथा भूखा रहना पड़ेगा, रोशनसिंह ने अपनी अकड़ में चेले की बात नहीं मानी और शाम होते होते उसे भूख लगने लगी लेकिन उसे खाने को नहीं मिला।
दुसरे दिन उसने भिक्षा मांगना शुरू किया शुरुवात में उसके बोल के कारण उसे कोई भिक्षा नहीं देता था लेकिन गुरुकुल में सभी के साथ बैठने पर उसे आधा पेट भोजन मिल जाता था। धीरे-धीरे उसे मीठे बोल का महत्व समझ आने लगा और करीब एक महीने बाद रोशन को भर पेट भोजन मिला जिसके बाद उसके व्यवहार में बहुत से परिवर्तन आये।
इसी तरह गुरुकुल के सभी नियमों ने राजकुमार में बहुत से परिवर्तन किये। जिसे रामकेश जी भी समझ रहे थे एक दिन रामकेश जी ने रोशन को अपने साथ सुबह सवेरे सैर पर चलने कहा दोनों सैर पर निकल गये। रास्ते भर बहुत बाते की गुरु जी ने रोशनसिंह से कहा कि तुम बहुत बुद्धिमान हो और तुममे बहुत अधिक उर्जा हैं जिसका तुम्हे सही दिशा मे उपयोग करना आना चाहिये। दोनों चलते-चलते एक सुंदर बाग़ में पहुँच गये जहाँ बहुत सुंदर-सुंदर फूल थे जिनसे बाग़ महक रहा था।
गुरु जी ने रोशनसिंह को बाग़ से पूजा के लिये गुलाब के फुल तोड़ने कहारोशनसिंह झट से सुंदर-सुंदर गुलाब तोड़ लाया और अपने गुरु के सामने रख दिये अब गुरु जी ने उसे नीम के पत्ते तोड़कर लाने कहा रोशन वो भी ले आया। अब गुरु जी ने उसे एक गुलाब सूंघने दिया और कहा बताओ कैसा लगता हैं, रोशनसिंह ने गुलाब सुंघा और गुलाब की बहुत तारीफ की।
फिर गुरु जी उसे नीम के पत्ते चखकर उसके बारे में कहने को कहा जैसे ही रोशनसिंह ने नीम के पत्ते खाये उसका मुंह कड़वा हो गया, और उसने उसकी बहुत निंदा की और यहाँ वहां पीने का पानी ढूंढने लगा रोशनसिंह की यह दशा देख गुरु जी मुस्कुरा रहे थे पानी पिने के बाद रोशन को राहत मिली फिर उसने गुरु जी से हँसने का कारण पूछा।
तब गुरु जी ने उससे कहा कि जब तुमने गुलाब का फुल सुंघा तो तुम्हे उसकी खुशबू बहुत अच्छी लगी और तुमने उसकी तारीफ की लेकिन जब तुमने नीम की पत्तियाँ खाई तो तुम्हे वो कड़वी लगी और तुमने उसे थूक दिया और उसकी निंदा भी की।
गुरु जी से रोशनसिंह को समझाया जिस प्रकार तुम्हे जो अच्छा लगता हैं तुम उसकी तारीफ करते हो उसी प्रकार प्रजा भी जिसमे गुण होते हैं उसकी प्रशंसा करती हैं। अगर तुम उनके साथ दुर्व्यवहार करोगे और उनसे प्रशंसा की उम्मीद करोगे, तो वे यह कभी दिल से नही कर पायेंगे इस प्रकार जहाँ गुण होते हैं वहाँ प्रशंसा होती हैं।

रोशनसिंह को सभी बाते बहुत ही तरीके से समझ आ जाती हैं और वो ख़ुशी ख़ुशी अपने महल लौट जाता है। रोशन में बहुत परिवर्तन आता हैं और वो बाद में एक सफल राजा बनता हैं।
कहानी की शिक्षा:
गुरु की व्यावहारिक शिक्षा ने रोशनसिंह का पूरा जीवन ही बदल दिया वो एक क्रूर राज कुमार से एक न्याय प्रिय और दयालु राजा बन गया इस कहानी से हमें यही शिक्षा मिलती हैं कि हममे सद्गुण होंगे तो लोग हमें हमेशा पसंद करेंगे लेकिन अगर हम अवगुणी हैं तो हमें प्रशंसा कभी भी उम्मीद नहीं करनी चाहिए।

There was a king of Lakhanpur whose name was Rajneesh, there was all happiness and prosperity in his life. The work of the state was also going on very well. Raja used to enjoy his kingdom with the imagination of Ramrajya, so his moral guns were commendable. The subjects were also very happy due to the moral qualities of the king and due to which the subjects remained happy in the state and what to say about the economic prosperity there. Thus the flow of the state was good in every field.
Even after so much happiness, the king was very upset because he had no child, this sorrow was eating the king inside. The subjects were also very sad about this. Don’t know where he said he didn’t bow his head, where he didn’t pray.
After years of penance, the king’s wish was fulfilled and he was blessed with a son.
Happiness was celebrated for many days in the whole city, food and clothes were arranged as a gift to the citizens for many days in the entire state. In this happiness of the king, the people were also dancing with happiness.
Time was passing, Raj Kumar was named Roshan Singh. The king had got a child after a lot of wishes and waiting, so he was being brought up with great pampering. But too much of anything is not good, too much pampering had spoiled Roshan Singh a lot. In childhood, everything about Roshan used to entice the heart. But as he grew up, these things started feeling contempt. Roshan had become very stubborn, arrogance had come in his mind.
He wanted the people to always cheer him and praise him. When he did not listen to him, he used to create ruckus. He used to consider the poor soldiers as shoes on his feet. His anger started coming down on the people every day. He considered himself like God. It was felt that the age was very less but the ego had increased many times. Everyone was very sad due to this behavior of Roshan. People used to come to the court every day complaining about Roshan, due to which the king’s head bowed down in shame, it became a serious matter. Had missed
One day the king called a meeting of all the special courtiers and ministers and told them his heart that he was extremely saddened by Raj Kumar’s behavior. Raj Kumar is the future of this state, if his behavior continues like this, then the prosperity of the state will go away in a few days only. The court consoles the king and tells him to have courage, otherwise the people will be helpless.
The minister suggested that the prince needs a proper guidance and experience of normal life. You send him to Guru Ramkesh’s ashram. I have heard that even animals turn out to be humans. The king liked this and sent Roshan to Guru ji. Sent to the ashram. The next day the king reached Guru ji’s ashram with his son. The king had a private talk with Guru Ramkesh and told all about Roshan. Guru ji assured the king that he would feel proud when he met his son.
Hearing such words of Guru ji, the king felt at peace and he happily left his son in the ashram and returned to the palace.
The next morning, Roshan was asked by a special disciple of the Guru to beg for food. Hearing which Roshan Singh flatly refused. The disciple told him that if he wants to fill his stomach, he will have to beg and the time for alms is till evening only. Otherwise he will have to starve, Roshan Singh in his arrogance did not listen to the disciple and in the evening he started feeling hungry but he did not get to eat.
The next day he started begging. In the beginning no one used to give him alms because of his speech, but when he sat with everyone in the Gurukul, he used to get half a stomach of food. Slowly he started to understand the importance of sweet words and after about a month, Roshan got a full stomach of food, after which there were many changes in his behaviour.
Similarly, all the rules of Gurukul made many changes in the prince. Which Ramkesh ji was also understanding. One day Ramkesh ji asked Roshan to go for an early morning walk with him. Both went out for a walk. Guruji told Roshan Singh that you are very intelligent and you have a lot of energy, which you should know how to use in the right direction. Both of them reached a beautiful garden while walking, where there were many beautiful flowers from which the garden was fragrant.
Guru ji asked Roshan Singh to pluck rose flowers from the garden for worship. Roshan Singh quickly plucked beautiful roses and placed them in front of his Guru. Now Guru ji asked him to pluck neem leaves and bring them. Roshan brought that too. Now Guru ji let him smell a rose and said tell me how do you feel, Roshan Singh smelled the rose and praised the rose a lot.
Then Guru ji asked him to taste neem leaves and tell about him. As soon as Roshan Singh ate neem leaves, his mouth became bitter, and he condemned him a lot and started searching for drinking water here and there. Guru ji smiled seeing Roshan Singh’s condition. Roshan was relieved after drinking water, then he asked Guru ji the reason for laughing.
Then Guru ji told him that when you smelled a rose flower, you liked its fragrance very much and you praised it but when you ate neem leaves, you found it bitter and you spit on it and also condemned it.
Explained to Roshan Singh from Guru ji, the way you praise what you like, in the same way the people also praise the one who has qualities. If you misbehave with them and expect praise from them, they will never do it from the heart. Thus where there is virtue there is praise.
Roshan Singh understands everything very clearly and he happily returns to his palace.
Moral of the Story is:
The practical education of the Guru changed the whole life of Roshan Singh, he became a justice-loving and kind-hearted king from a cruel Raj Kumar, from this story we learn that if we have virtues then people will always like us, but if we are demerit then We should never expect praise.
